Clio named one of BC’s Top Employers

For the sixth consecutive year, Clio is recognized as a Top Employer in British Columbia

From its global headquarters in Burnaby, Clio has been named one of BC’s Top Employers by Mediacorp Canada Inc. This is a special designation that recognizes British Columbia employers as leaders in their industries, offering exceptional places to work. Now in its 18th year, BC’s Top Employer Awards is celebrating ways companies are ensuring their employees feel connected to their workplace—and to each other— in a sharp increase in hybrid work throughout the region.

“Without the daily interaction that comes from being around your colleagues in person, employees can feel isolated from the community that organically forms in a workplace,” says Richard Yerema, executive editor of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project. “Winning employers foster that connection by ensuring their employees are seen and heard, particularly when it comes to thanking their people for hard work or a job well done.”

Employers throughout British Columbia were evaluated by the editors at Canada’s Top 100 Employers using the same criteria as the national competition: workplace, work atmosphere, health, financial & family benefits, vacation & time off, employee communications, performance management, training & skills development, and community involvement. Companies are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offer the most progressive and forward-thinking programs.

“Workplace experience is very multidimensional in today’s context, and we’re honored to be awarded for our unique connective design with Clio’s 900+ employees,” said Natalie Archibald, Vice President, People at Clio. “We’re keeping a pulse on employee needs while optimizing our Distributed by Design workplace model to deliver to the incredible level of talent across our organization. It’s very encouraging to see us recognized as employers of choice in our field.”

The award jurists specifically referenced some of Clio’s industry-leading programs and initiatives that supported a winning position. Those include:

  • A thoughtful approach when helping employees manage unexpected challenges, offering compassionate leave top-up for those called upon to care for a loved one (to 100 per cent of salary for up to 16 weeks)
  • A Distributed by Design workforce model that provides employees with the flexibility to choose between in-office, remote and hybrid work — employees receive a one-time work-from-home allowance of $500 as well as a monthly allowance of $150 to subsidize work-from-home expenses
  • Ongoing mental wellness support through its employee assistance program as part of its health plan and offers a separate maximum of $2,000 per year for mental health practitioners
  • A Flexible Paid Time Off program, which goes beyond the traditional vacation model. Employees can decide when they need time, how much they need, and which holidays they wish to recognize and celebrate. In launching the program, Clio has committed to ensuring its employees have the means to integrate their work and life in a way that lets them rest, recharge, recuperate, and balance their personal lives outside of work.

This award adds to the impressive list of recognitions Clio has been proud to accept over recent months, tied to exceptional workplace culture. Most recently, Jack Newton, Founder and CEO of Clio was awarded CEO of the Year – Large Business Category at Business in Vancouver’s C-Suite Awards. Clio was also recognized by Fast Company, Waterstone Capital, YWCA, Eluta, and Deloitte for exceptional corporate culture, innovative programs, industry leadership, and top management.
