Chances are, you\u2019re doing work that doesn\u2019t <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">really<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> need to be done by you. Delegating could free up significant time, and lead to opportunities for growth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Assess your work tasks, and challenge whether you\u2019re the one who should be doing them. Come up with a list of questions to ask yourself when you\u2019re unsure if a task can be delegated. Write them down, and refer back to them. Here are some questions to get you started:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Could someone else adequately complete this task?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Could someone else complete this task faster than me?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How much will it cost for me to complete the task? How much for a staff member?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Are there any ethical issues with delegating this task?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">2. Clear systems are the answer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe way I systemise my practice is almost like a workflow operation, in which I\u2019m responsible for the client onboarding strategy,\u201d he explains. \u201cOnce the client comes in, I bring in the client business development, sign them up, and I give them to one of my associates, who is in charge of distributing the work around the office.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Abraham and his team follow set workflows from which the firm\u2019s operations flow smoothly in the right direction. \u201cOnce you have the system in place, then it\u2019s about acquiring new clients and hiring new associates to fulfil the needs of overwork, or being overworked,\u201d Abraham says.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">3. Don\u2019t be afraid to build a team that can support the business, even as the business is growing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI mean, that\u2019s what the firm is. It\u2019s people. It\u2019s a combination of people, working together for an end goal. And that end goal is growing the business, and providing quality, legal representation to my clientele,\u201d Abraham says.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For \u00c9amon Chawke of <a href=\"https:\/\/marketing.dev.clio.systems\/uk\/customers\/success-efficiency-and-growth-with-clio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Briffa,<\/a>\u00a0adopting Clio has meant the firm has experienced significant growth in terms of headcount and revenue. They&#8217;d say, \u2018Yeah, of course.\u2019 And they&#8217;ll give you a referral.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Reach out to clients proactively<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Being willing to reach out, help (even, sometimes, for free), and nurture that relationship can be an investment in future firm growth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201c&#8230; sometimes I&#8217;d call my clients, and ask \u2018How&#8217;s business? I heard there was an issue with tariffs,\u2019\u201d Abraham recalls. \u201cAnd he would start expressing, or she would start expressing, all the pain about getting hit with this 20% tariff, they don&#8217;t know what to do. And I help talk them through the business decisions that they&#8217;re making. It\u2019s not necessarily legal advice, and I won&#8217;t bill for it. Instead, he called more experienced solicitors and asked for their opinions.
